Botswana is generally considered one of the safer countries in Africa and has a relatively low crime rate compared to some other countries in the region. The government of Botswana places a strong emphasis on maintaining law and order, and there is a visible police presence in urban areas.
The country wholeheartedly welcomes international tourism, so visiting Botswana either as a solo traveler or with a group is generally considered to be safe, although you should always exercise common sense and vigilance while traveling.
It's a wise idea to:
- Familiarize yourself with local customs and traditions to avoid unintentionally offending locals. Respect cultural norms and dress modestly, especially when visiting religious sites or rural communities.
- Take necessary health precautions, such as vaccinations and anti-malarial medication as instructed by your health care provider. Drink bottled or purified water and practice good hygiene to prevent foodborne illnesses.
- Of course, when participating in wildlife activities, follow the instructions of the experienced guides and maintain a safe distance from animals. Do not attempt to feed or approach wild animals on your own.
Be sure to check with your healthcare provider about general health recommendations before travel. Typically, no vaccines are recommended for travel to Botswana but, since we will be in a very remote area, anti-malarial drugs are recommended.
Zimbabwe Entry:
As we will be landing in Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe, you'll need a visa for entry into Zimbabwe. And since we'll arrive in Zimbabwe and then cross the border into Botswana and re-enter Zimbabwe again after the retreat to fly back out, a double entry visa for Zimbabwe is required. This can be purchased upon arrival.
Fees:
- For American, EU, and Swiss citizens: $45 USD
- For UK and Irish citizens: $70 USD
*If you hold a different passport, please reach out to us and/or your local embassy for visa information.
Payment:
Ensure you have the visa fee in US dollars available upon arrival, as credit card facilities may not be available at the port of entry.
Botswana Entry:
No visa is required for short stays (up to 90 days) in Botswana.

Leah runs an all-inclusive retreat that delivers in all aspects. Beautiful yoga that was just the right balance of challenging and soothing. Leah is a skilled teacher and communicator, and I learnt a lot from her yoga classes. She also has great organizational skills and ensured that things ran smoothly. The retreat was held in a beautiful location...The vegetarian food was fabulous, varied and filling. Day trips were lots of fun and a great way to see some of the surrounding area. There was also time to simply relax by the pool. I highly recommend attending one of Leah's yoga retreats.
Not only is Leah a fantastically gifted teacher, she is a beautiful person too. Her knowledge, passion and patience are utterly inspiring. If you can study in any way with Leah, do it, you won't regret it!
Delightful, empowering, soulful and all around magnificent. Leah is a kind, intelligent, informed teacher. She embodies yogic principles and created an environment where everyone felt like a meaningful part of the community.
Leah’s teaching style is a combination of strength and grace, of high technicality and beautiful spirituality. Leah shares her knowledge selflessly and with great kindness...I feel so grateful to have met her, and would recommend her classes and trainings 100%!
The most amazing time! Leah Sugerman is one of the best yoga instructors I’ve ever had.
I have tried several times but when it comes to putting the words down, I’m getting lost. What I owe you is so much more than a “thank you” because I feel that what you taught me is the most valuable lesson I have learned in life. And for that, I am grateful. I opened myself up to the lessons you had to teach and what you taught has had a deep impact on me as a person. It is not something that I really understand, but I feel it happening. Thank you for everything you showed me and every lesson you gave. Thank you for being such a profound light in the world. And thank you for shining a little of that light on me. And thank you so much for having such a huge impact on me that I find myself tearing up as I try to write you a message of gratitude. Thank you so, so much for reaching into me in ways I don’t even understand.
Leah is a complete force of total goodness and she has a massive presence. Her classes flow with consummate ease and, as a new yoga teacher myself, I now appreciate that her cueing is super world class. Never once did I find myself wondering what to do with my body. No class was ever the same. She always taught who was in the room and gave us all the confidence to attempt more difficult postures through her skill and compassion. Whilst she is light-hearted, there is a beautiful spirituality underlining her purpose on the mat. It makes you think on a deeper level when you leave the mat and return to “life.” Every class is a journey. World class teacher, world class person. I have yet to come across a better teacher on many levels.
Thank you Leah for being such a dedicated, insightful, and lovely teacher—I still can't believe how much I learned from you.
Leah has this natural gift to kindly and professionally lead you toward and within yourself during the whole practice.
Leah, my flow is forever changed thanks to your teachings.
Leah is such an inspiring person with a deep knowledge of yoga as a science and a philosophy. She always knew how to encourage us with her creative and motivating teaching techniques. Her classes are super enjoyable and she's the sweetest teacher ever! <3
